Doctoral Research Project

The current research study focuses on individuals’ family relationships during their childhood and adolescence. By looking back on different types of experiences, specifically distressing, in addition to positives ones, this research investigates how emerging adults (18-25 years old) perceive certain memories within their family context, during their childhood and adolescence. The goal of the current study is to look into these specific events, before the age of 18, in order to explore the role that they played in individuals’ development over the years and to their current psychological well-being.

2017-2019 – Therapy coordinator for a research project on the efficacy of Internet-based interventions for Arabic-speaking individuals suffering from depression and/or PTSD, Ilajnafsy, Zentrum Überleben, Berlin, Germany

2016-2017 – Mental health consultant for the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for a project with the Egyptian Ministry of Justice on violence against women

2015-2016 – Mental health officer for a project aiming at improving the access to mental health services in Cairo and Giza, Médecins du Monde-France, Cairo, Egypt

2014-2015 – Intern at the following sites: the Counseling Center at the American University in Cairo; the Behman Psychiatric Hospital; and, the 57357 Children Cancer Hospital, Egypt
